This tool has so much potential!  There would be a huge audience for Book Lamp in the educational setting.  As an elementary library media teacher, the requests from students for personalized book recommendations are constant, and it is difficult to keep up with the many quality books and authors available to kids.  It would be wonderful if your service extended into children's literature genres and titles - award winners, popular authors, etc.  And, it's not just students who would benefit.  Many classroom teachers also request books that would be similar in style to a specific title or author they have previously read.  This tool gives the reader the power to locate titles of interest.

Keep up the good work!

I agree that this could be a great tool for librarians and teachers alike. As a school media specialist (in training), I try to keep up to date with children's lit to help kids with suggestions, but there is so much out there. And, let's face it, there are some genres I am not as interested in. I am looking forward to seeing where this project goes to see how helpful it could be.

I agree. I'm also a librarian and this could be extremely helpful. However, the database as is seems TINY. No George RR Martin? I looked for mainstream stuff like The Help by Stockett too, and that wasn't there. A lot of potential but right now it's just frustrating.

Hi Ilka!

The database for the demo is "TINY" (2-4k titles) because it's a demo, rather than a service.  Also, the demo is about 2yrs old now and almost no resources have been allotted to update it since then - generally, we have more important concerns, like... launching full-featured recommendation service.

I can certainly see the benefit that a librarian would glean from this sort of technology.  If I were you, I would check back in a month or so to see what we're up to.  If I weren't you, I would check back to see what we're up to Smiley

Keep in touch!

I agree with the idea for using it in school libraries.  As the number of books titles grow, it will become more valuable.  It is an easy way to have a Reader's Advisory when reading time is at a premium.
This entire website will be one I will come back to quite often.

Hi I think this is an awesome tool and look forward to your launch. One suggestion would be a tool that one can use for export or a way to link into you pages to share with kids in the library. Not too many kids will create accounts so it would be nice to export out some of the content. Are you looking at making this a payable service?

I agree! I am so excited about this site and its potential! As a librarian and an avid reader who is always looking for a good book, this is a thrilling concept for me. Thank you for a fantastic idea!
