If I were a VC or angel investor, I would tell you that this thread would not instill a lot of confidence. You've built something that from what I can tell you're wanting to sell to Google to turn it into something, and you're asking your users to tell you if you have an idea worth pursuing? How are you going to sell anyone else on this enough for them to give you money or pay you for it if you aren't even sold.

That aside, how do you plan to monetize this idea? If your final plan is to ask me Jane Q. Nobody to start coughing up $9.99 a month in subscription, then I'll tell you now, I'll pass. Not a fan of the interface on the home page, and I have no way of knowing if your suggestion are correct since they aren't books that I've heard of. Pandora, you know instantly when the song starts if you like it. I would suggest that like Shelfari or Kirkus, you allow people to write reviews of the books, but then I could just go to Amazon and read ratings of books. They make recommendations too.

As long as this site stays free, I'll probably play around with it and see if it's useful.

I think this is a great idea. Definitely find somewhere to access as many books as possible, and please be sure not to neglect fantasy and science fiction!

Linking up with Amazon would be optimal. I'm a huge supporter of Barnes and Noble, but they don't have the database for small publishers and self publishing the way Amazon does. Besides, I think Amazon would be more willing to team up on a project like this. The way your rating system works to provide book titles should help weed out the crap self-published titles from the self-published titles that deserve more attention.

Review blogs and social media sites are a great way to read about popular books, but I would want to use this service to find lesser known authors and books. Keep going with this! I would love to see how it all turns out. I'm constantly on the hunt for new things to read.

Could you partner with www.goodreads.com maybe?

Hmm... I don't do business, or forums, or Pandora, so I can't be too sure. But I do read, a lot, and this seems like a wonderful idea. Right now, im having navigation issues with the site, but I'm sure those will iron themselves out as they go along and it's possible I'm just slow. Lemme do a little more snooping and I'll get back to ya Wink
