That's great to hear.  We love that kind of enthusiasm from the public.  We are certainly making this work.  The business world can't always react as fast as a lean, agile startup like BookLamp can.

Wow!  You've got an excellent project here.  I like the objective approach which should ultimately allow the catalogue to be rapidly scaled up.  Oh, what potential there is!

I'm looking forward to giving it a spin.  I've been waiting for something like this since the Alexandria website shut down in the mid-90's (a book recommendation project based on user reviews).

I've just spent a couple of minutes trying this out.  Of course, the results of a search are very limited by the book list but it was interesting to see what came up.  I think generally it's a great idea and I'd certainly use it if the book list was long and varied enough.  In my attempt the search didn't go on to the star rating level described in your video.  Would you do better to link up with someone like librarything or even Amazon?  Perhaps you need to prove the concept a bit more first.

Anyway thanks for doing this, I'll follow up your recommendations.  I really hope this grows into something big.  I always need more book recommendations!

Hi Lesley Moss,

Thanks for the honest feedback.  The UI you used is a 2+ year old demonstration - meant to spur curiosity and imagination for the most part.  I don't know this for sure (I got here after that), but I think most of the measurements and mechanics behind the book suggestions has changed.  Paul and Dustin recently started a big push to bring the demo up to date and it's looking pretty cool.  I'm told this goes down on Monday (or, next week, to be safe).

As far as I know, you can look at this next release as a jump from a demo to a public beta.  Some important UI features will have changed, the formulas and algroithms will've been updated and we've added some buttons to collect user feedback (for those willing to share).  There are many more books, and we have plans to continuously increase the number of books available.


It's funny, Lesley; I've responded to posts of all sorts about people's reaction to the demo and I sort of converged on some a few standard replies.  You are one of the first who will get an immediate, tangible reply - if you want.  Check back later this week and let us know what you think about it.
