I think the general idea and purpose of BookLamp is very interesting and useful. However, it really does need a more extensive booklist. I'm not much of a sci-fic fan myself and off that list I had only read 1984 (which I wasn't very fond of) so it wasn't exactly useful for me yet. It would be really good though to see this project improve and gain more additions of books, particularly a greater diversity in genres and titles Smiley I'm not sure how to add more books yet but I'll look it up.

Lilly,

The demonstration is only meant to convey the recommendation concept, and what the experience might be like.  We've been adding books (not to the demonstration, though) and considering all the "book adding" angles since the first days of BookLamp (I actually wasn't here then, but I'd imagine it was hot topic).  There's a number of avenues aside from the Google's resource-intensive approach, and they are continually being explored.

Ditto!

This definitely shows potential and I would love to see it expanded.

This is fantastic! I can't tell you how many hours have been wasted sifting through the thousands of books available at the bookstore without a clue to what would be throwing money away and what would be the next big find. I agree you need more book options but obviously you are in the research phaze and I am excited about where you are headed. This website has the ability to take the "You can't judge a book by its cover" to a whole new level! We would no longer have to judge a book by its cover, we could instead judge it by its content...now you are venturing into a whole new arena! This also has the potential to bring unknown authors to the mainstream and creating best-selling authors out of individuals that might otherwise have been lost in all the noise we are faced with these days. I am siked and will continue to check in...can't wait until you guys get all of the details squared away. I would use this site before buying any book again at that point...just think of the advertising possibilities in that!

I totally agree with Lily - The idea is interesting, every reader is always looking for good book recommendatiions.  However, it is almost impossible to tell if the database even works when you have only sci-fi on the test.  I do not read sci-fi so I don't have a clue if the recommendations even make sense.  I have only heard of 1984 and Jurassic Park.  You really should try testing with more mainstream books, e.g., previous New York Times Bestsellers or classic literature.
