I think that this project really needs to add some more books. On the entire list there were no books that I have read. How is this program supposed to help you find books when the books you like have not been listed?

Hi Teresa,
The current site is really more of a technology proof-of-concept, hence the very limited selection of books.

That said, I have been working on some tweaks (including more books & genres) that I plan to publish soon, probably in the next 2-3 weeks. Needless to say, getting the full text for hundreds/thousands of books is not the quickest thing, but I'm quite pleased they'll be posted soon.

Hi Amir,
Anything in particular?  I know one of our guys is big into the Wheel of Time series, and another has followed a lot of Stephen Lawhead's Celtic fantasy writings.

Completely agree. I have never heard of most of the titles listed, and my reading is pretty mainstream. Like I was looking for Jane Austen as an example and I couldn't find anything remotely related. I say, work on inputting the classics and/or more popular NY Times Bestselling type books first, then work on random books that only appeal to a small audience.

Maybe you should suggest where one could get the book that are suggested?

Halie and Brost,

We are releasing an updated public beta version this week.  It has many more than ~180 titles.  I hope you find what you're looking for.

Keep in touch,

I have updated the search/suggest code -- it now allows title & author search, as well as browsing by genre, title, and author.
The algorithms are improved from the 2008 algorithm we were using, and we expect continual refinements to them, but this is still very much a "beta" project, meaning we will be tweaking the algorithms (mostly for the better) as time goes on.

Oh, we also have a little over 2,000 titles listed now, and we plan to add a few thousand more over the next several weeks.  Enjoy!

I definitely agree with this.  I kept searching different titles and found nothing.  I think this is a great concept, though, and I would love to see it in action with a much larger number of books.  Some series I would like added are (in order from least to most dense): The Lightning Thief, Alex Rider, Pendragon, Gone, Eragon.

Hi Jeffery.  What's available in the public engine right now is only a small fraction of what we have in our system (out of necessity).  We certainly intend to make as much of our data available to you and the rest of the world asap.  If you can be patient with us, we'll get there.

Now that you've registered, you will likely get an email when we officially launch a public service.  Thanks for the post.

What about letting users add books and having administrators moderate changes?

If you're concerned about the workload, you could perhaps make it more democratic and somehow ask users to patrol listings--if they see a duplicate, for example, they can flag it. From there you could either set it so that a listing is automatically taken down or have a moderator check it to take appropriate actions.

Actually, I think a better idea would be to require someone to input the ISBN number for a book (and check that with the data on your servers), so that no duplicates or fakes are added to the list... should be simple enough to do, code-wise
